A machine is anything that simplifies work. There are two main types of machines; simple machines and complex machines. The best example of a simple machine is a lever. The lever has three main parts; the load, the effort and the fulcrum or pivot. The load is the work to be done while the energy required to do the work is the part of the lever where motion of the machine occurs. The see saw that we use to play at school and at home is a good example of a lever. When playing with the see-saw, the one who sits last is the effort. The point where the see-saw swings is known as the fulcrum.

Matter is anything that has weight and occupies space. All things that we can see, touch or feel are matters. All matters are made up of the smallest particles known as atoms. These particles are invisible with our naked eyes.
There are three states of matter. These are solid, liquid and gas. Solid matters are made up of tightly packed particles. Such things include stones, wood and papers. Solid matters normally have specific shapes. Examples of liquid matters are water, milk and kerosene. Liquid matters have no specific shape rather they occupy the shape of the container which they are placed in. The gaseous matters are those whose atoms are loosely packed. Examples of gaseous matters are water vapour, smoke, Oxygen and Carbon dioxide.
However, some substances can exist in both three states of matter. An example of those substances is water. Pure water is in liquid form. When the pure water is boiled at an average temperature of 100oC it turns in to vapour which is gaseous state. Similarly, when the temperature is exposed to the temperature of 0o C it freezes and becomes and ice which is a solid state.
