A leader is a person who guides and shows others way. Since the union of Tanganyika and Zanzibar which took place on 26th April, 1964, Tanzania has been led by different presidents. The first president was Mwalimu Julius KambarageNyerere who led us from 1964 to 1985.

The second president was Alhaj Ali Hassan Mwinyi who led u from 1985. He was then followed by President Benjamin William Mkapa who led us from 1995 to 2005. JakayaMrishoKikwete was the fourth president. He led us from 2005 to 2015. He was succeeded by Dr. John Pombe Joseph Magufuli as the fifth president. He was well known for his slogan. “HAPA KAZI TU”. He died while in power on the 17th March, 2021. Samia Suluhu Hassan who by then was the vice president of Tanzania took office according to constitutional requirements. She is the current president of Tanzania.

Since 1995, Tanzania has experienced multiparty elections and all the six presidents have been elected from the ruling party; Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM). We thank our Almighty God for all our presidents who lead us in peace and harmony.
