  1. (a). How many packets of cigarettes are left over when 516 of them are packed into boxes which hold 36 packets each?

(b). Find the prime factors of the following numbers: 20, 40 and 42.

(b). Mariam was given 20 000 shillings by her father. She spent 48% of it to buy shoes. How much money she remained with?

(b). A boy has a pile of four books on his desk. The thickness of the books are 22 mm, 13 mm,   39mm and 18 mm. Can the pile fit in a shelf of 10 cm high? If so, calculate the length of the space left.

(c). Use the following two figures to calculate the values of x and y:

  1. (a). Juma, Ali, Mery and Kato have 300, 100, 500 and 600 shares in a cooperative shop respectively. Divide 150 000 shillings among them in the ratio of their shares.

 (b). A house was sold at a profit of 900 000 shillings. If the rate of profit is 37  %, find the cost (buying price) of the house.

 (c). Find the time in which 30 000 shs will earn sh 6000 at the rate of 5% interest per annum.

11. Amina is 5 years older than Rayan and Fatuma in Twice as old as Amina. The total of their ages is 103 years. Find each of their ages.

 

12. Given two points P1 (5, 2) and P2 (-6, 3) find:-

(a) Equation of a line passes through these points

(b) Draw a graph by using an equation of a line in 12(a) above

(c) Determine x and y – intercepts

 

13. (a) Solve by substitution method

  2x + 3y = 6

  Y = 2x

 (b) If 3 ties and 4 shirts cost 24,100/= and 4 ties and 3 shirts cost 20,000/= find the cost of 1 tie and 1 shirt.

 

14. Solve the following compound inequalities and represent the answer on a number line

(a) 5 ≤ 3x – 1 < 15

(b) 1 < ½ x – 5 ≤ 3
